Selena Gomez Talks New Album & Songwriting

Selena Gomez chatted with DigitalSpy about songwriting, her new album, Wizards Of Waverly Place & Twitter.

Were you nervous about taking the leap from actress to singer? Of course! That's why it took me a while to get into the music scene. It was very nerve-wracking but I'm in a very good place and I've worked really hard on my album.

Why did you decide to go down the band route instead of launching as a solo artist? I just really didn't want to be a solo artist. Originally I wanted the project to be called 'The Scene', but obviously that would be confusing for my younger audience who know me because of the show and my name, so we decided to use both. I think it's worked out well.

What's up with the follow up album? I'm working on it at the moment and hopefully we'll get it out this year. I'm really enjoying my music, and I'm much more comfortable with it now, so I'm really excited for people to hear the stuff I'm working on.

Will you be co-writing more on the sophomore album? I'm trying to do my second album while shooting my movie, so I don't know if I'll have time to be in the studio as much as I want. Eventually I'd like to get to a place where it's just my band and myself writing together, because that's what I really love, but at the moment I'm having fun singing songs by some really talented writers. Why not enjoy the people who really know what they're doing as opposed to me?!

Have you any thoughts on what the next single will be? I think we might go right into the second album so it might be something completely different. Hopefully we'll get the next single out before the summer because I have a new song that's just a really fun summer song and I want it out really soon!

When do you find out the fourth season of Wizards? I'm assuming very soon. As soon as I'm finished with my press tour for the record, I go right into filming my movie, and as soon as that's over there's a slot when I think I'm going to start season four. It's not 100%, but I'm pretty sure it will come back. Will we see a second Wizards movie? Hopefully, yes! The show's doing extremely well, and the cast and I are really happy with it, so we'd love to do a second movie.

Do you actually read your responses on Twitter? All of my Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube posts are just for the fans. It's a great way to stay connected and let them know how grateful I am. I read the Twitter responses because I know it's my fans following me, so if I occasionally see a bad comment it's OK because there are lots more nice people there! I don't read my YouTube comments though because they're anonymous and I try not to let anything negative get to me. Why would I? Look how lucky I am. I'm very happy and I have really wonderful people around me, so I just focus on that.
